Description
As the primary raw material used in the solar PV industry, polysilicon is at the top of the supply value chain, followed by ingots, wafers, cells, modules and solar power plants. It also requires advanced technology and a purity level of 9.9999999%(referred to as "Nine 9"). Moreover, the polysilicon industry is a capital-intensive industry, requiring large investments in equipment and facilities, with high technological entry barriers.
Accordingly, only a few companies in the world possess polysilicon-manufacturing technology. As a result of its successful commercializaion of high purity polysilicon, OCI Company Ltd. has joined a group of selected companies that possesses polysilicon-manufacturing technology. As the company completed the expansion of the annual capacity of its plant I from 5,000 ton to 6,500 ton in the first half of 2009 and the construction of its plant II with a capacity of 10,000 ton in July 2009, OCI has become a world the major global producer that has the nameplate capacity to produce 16,500 ton per year. Moreover, after completion of its plant III with a 10,000 ton production capacity, the company will have an annual capacity of 26,500 ton.
